The Proposal

Matt and I have been dating for 6 years before he popped the question the day before our 6 year anniversary. It was Friday around 6pm (after work) and he knew I was having a bad week so he almost didn’t propose. His step-mom came to visit the week before and in her attempts to help us, she let in fleas when she was trying to let cool air into the house. I got bitten everywhere—AND I’m allergic to flea bites so I spent my lunch hours fumigating the house and washing every piece of clothing we owed so I was pretty miserable.

He made it all better! I came home from work on Friday night and I noticed that the garage door didn’t work. I thought the battery needed to be replaced so I actually spent 10 minutes in the car trying to pry open the controller and figure out what battery it took. Little did I know that Matt just wanted me to go through the front door of the house. When I gave up on the remote control and opened the front door, that’s when I knew.

There were candles everywhere, the fireplace was roaring, and hundreds of blue (blue is my favorite color) and white balloons were floating high up on the vaulted ceiling and covering the tile floor of the house…and rose petals leading upstairs…..I was so shocked I didn’t even know that I was still carrying my backpack, laptop bag, purse, and workout bag up stairs when I went upstairs. I was just screaming “OMG OMG OMG” in my head the entire time. When I followed the petals to the master bedroom, I saw even more candles everywhere and a ring of rose petals with him in the middle. At that point I was just trying to memorize everything, and that’s when he asked if I would marry him (on one knee with a beautiful princess cut ring—I would have said yes to a ring from a gumball machine)….so of course I said yes!

Here are pictures from that night. Even though it wasn’t anything too extravagant (my best friend’s husband took her on a road trip and proposed at the Ritz), it came from Mr. Starfish’s heart. I was impressed that he had everything planned! I love proposal stories—so if you have a good one, I’d love to hear it…
