The Budget

Matt and I have been pretty financially independent for most of our lives, so we knew that we were going to be the ones paying for the wedding and making a budget was something we discussed and put together right off the bat. We wanted a really elegant wedding so since the engagement we have been doing research on DIY and always looking to stretch that dollar. Luckily, I was a bridesmaid for one of my best friends who had a destination wedding (last year in Oahu) and I saw first hand that it could be done!

I think it is important to prioritize what is most important for your wedding. For us, this meant we wanted a scenic location and a photographer (who could capture our emotions). For these two items we budgeted for about half the cost of our wedding so around $12,000. I know—I know that’s an insane amount of money for a romantic location and for photos! However, I think it’s important to know what it is you want. Now-a-days the average wedding costs around $24,000 but with all our extra research we are excited to see all that we can do with a slightly above average budget, but we want to make our wedding way above average.

Any money-saving suggestions? What’s most important to you for a wedding and why?
